Nobody particularly wanted the house.
It needed a roof. The plumbing was temperamental. There was something questionable growing under the back deck.
But it was included in the divorce, along with two bicycles, several cases of wine, and the contents of a linen cupboard nobody had opened since 1987.
That part turned out rather well.
This quilt feels like it spent its first life in a house on the Cape, slowly bleached by salt air and ocean breezes. Faded purple and red, washed blue-grey, with the occasional unexpected flash of lime — the kind of ridiculously luxurious quilt someone once paid $500 for on Martha’s Vineyard, then tossed casually across the guest bed.
And you can feel it.
It’s beautifully soft, substantial and luxurious, with the weight and hand of a very good textile that has only gotten better with age.
Then there’s the fit.
For all that glorious quilt, this coat is remarkably slim and elegant. The long, clean silhouette falls beautifully from the shoulder, skims rather than overwhelms, and somehow makes 42 inches of vintage bedding look downright sophisticated.
Big patch pockets. Easy open front. A little faded grandeur.
23" across × 42" long.
One of one.
Made from reclaimed vintage home textiles.
Machine washable.
The house still needs a roof.
