I combine textiles that have no business being together until they look like they were waiting for each other.
Quilts, tablecloths, embroidery, curtains, clothing and other found textiles become one-of-one wearable works — cut by instinct, built around the material, and designed to have another life.
The textile comes first. I figure out what it wants to become.

Art doesn't have to hang on a wall.
Kimonoir pieces go to concerts, dinners, city streets, airports, galleries and grocery stores. They get worn, noticed, spilled on, washed, packed in suitcases and taken somewhere else.
Quilts, tablecloths, embroidery, curtains and other textiles come to me after they've already lived a good life in someone's home. They've been loved, used and washed a thousand times. What's a few hundred more?
And they're made for real life. The pockets are big because I've stood at an airport gate with my passport, boarding pass, phone, e-reader, noise-cancelling headphones and Haribo gummy bears as the gate agent says, “That all needs to fit.” They're drink holders when the festival crowd starts moving. They're somewhere to put all the stuff you suddenly have no hands for.
