There would be a gallery. There would be very small glasses of wine. There would be food balanced precariously on tiny bamboo skewers with impossibly pretentious names, none of which would adequately prepare you for the fact that you were about to eat a mushroom.
There would be at least one person wearing architectural eyewear who would describe something as a conversation between negative space and memory.
Your date invents a drinking game.
Every time someone says chiaroscuro, you drink.
This proves to be a tactical error while trying to hold adult conversations.
Fortunately, you brought your own conversation piece.
The Chalk Garden is gloriously, deliberately asymmetrical — soft slate grey interrupted by enormous hand-drawn-looking flowers in chalky white and marigold yellow. One side is quiet. The other has absolutely no interest in restraint.
Turn around and the whole thing blooms.
The original vintage quilt did the hard part.
We simply refused to make it behave.
Even the pockets disagree with each other.
Inside, a soft grey patterned lining gives it that slightly ridiculous luxury of a garment that looks just as considered hanging open as it does wrapped around you.
Made from reclaimed vintage home textiles. One of one. Machine washable.

Please don't touch the installation.
And for the love of God, stop saying chiaroscuro.
